Worked example
With Floor 1: external length = 12, Floor 1: external width = 9:

Plinth area is the built-up covered area measured at floor level, wall-to-wall outside (IS 3861 method) - enter external dimensions. Balcony is shown separately because whether and how much of it counts toward plinth area or FAR varies by local bye-law.
