Enter details

How to use

  1. Fill in: Room type, Room area (m²) and Lumens per fixture (bulb label). Fields with defaults or marked optional can stay as shown.
  2. Tap Calculate Lighting.
  3. Read the result - you can print or save it as PDF.

Worked example

With Room type = Living room, Room area = 15, Lumens per fixture = 800:

LIGHT FIXTURES NEEDED6 × 800 lm
  • Total lumens required: 2,250 lm
  • Brightness target: 150 lux (living room)
  • Room area: 15 m²
  • Lumens per fixture used: 800 lm
Lumen method: fixtures = (lux × area) ÷ (lumens per fixture × 0.6 utilization × 0.8 light-loss). Brightness targets are midpoints of NBC 2016 recommended ranges for homes (living 100-200, bedroom 75-150, kitchen 300-500, bathroom 150-300 lux). Dark walls or high ceilings need more - treat this as a starting point.
